BACK COUNTRY SKI SEASON BEGINS!!!!

Back Country Skiing Season
Commences

Poor old Jack Lamond is chaffing at the bit to head
out backcountry skiing. In fact, he was out yesterday afternoon
after a full morning of powersawing. Does the man ever
stop? Did you hear about Jack's latest Quest? I'll call it "quest"
because it's like that quest that they have up north with the dogs pulling
sleighs ... I think it's the Yukon Quest. Well, apparently Jack has got
Tanner his active canine pal all hitched up to a harness ...
now the harness is not hitched to a sleigh .. it's hitched to
Jacko. So the other day, Jack decided to try out his new rig with
Tanner on the actual trail. So he hooks up with the harness leading from
Tanner and attached around Jacko's waist . Well, from the slam of
the car door on the old Kippens Dump Road, Tanner was off like a 767 with
Jacko in hot, involuntary pursuit. It all seemed logical and
straightforward enough and things were going stupendously well, that
is until a snowmobile passed and then it was "Hi Oh Silver Away
!!!!!!!!!!!" And away goes Tanner, the hound, in full stride
chasing the machine. What a ride Jack had ..... he was at Camp 38
just west of Gallants before the snowmobiler stopped for a
smoke. It was a good thing that he stopped too, because according to
buddy on the snowmobile he was heading for Deer Lake and he stopped because
his machine was overheating. Jack told me that he was sure Tanner would
have chased his big yellow Bombardier right to the Deer Lake
airport. So if you got a flight out of Deer Lake ... just call Jack
and he'll hook you on to Tanner and then find a snomobile going in that
direction .. appparently Tanner makes transfers to other machiones if the one
you're following sops so he is quite reliable.

Back to he story ... yes there will be some
backcountry tours coming up ... some will be moderate in exertion ... some will
be strenuous and some might be downright "Alpaca" in difficulty.
Check 'em out and you might want to join in ... lunches are required and
lots of time ... warm clothes and sometimes a tent ..... one must be
prepared. More later.
